Target
KOSPI-listed non-ferrous metals (zinc and others) smelter, with Young Poong and the Chang family as largest shareholders and the Choi family side running management.
Deal rationale
In the 13 Sept 2024 tender-offer filing, MBK's SPC Korea Corporate Investment Holdings and Young Poong stated the purpose as strengthening management control of Korea Zinc, after agreeing a shareholder agreement with Young Poong and the Chang family the day before to jointly exercise voting rights under MBK's lead (Money Today). The offer price was raised from KRW 660,000 to 750,000 and 830,000 per share; MBK said 830,000 was sufficiently above fair value and would not be raised again (Smart Today). The offer secured 5.34%, lifting the MBK-Young Poong combined stake from 33.13% to 38.47%.
