Target
Yes Power Technix is Korea's only SiC power-semiconductor design and manufacturing company, reported to hold 1,700V-class high-voltage MOSFET technology competitive with global leaders. It was renamed SK Powertech in March 2023.
Deal rationale
SK Inc.'s Kim Yang-taek said the investment gave SK another growth opportunity in the fast-growing SiC power-semiconductor market, following its early investments across core EV technologies. SK said it would build Korea's first value chain from SiC wafer production (via SK Siltron) to power-device design and manufacturing, and grow the company into a global SiC leader. SK had invested KRW 26.8bn for a 33.6% stake in January 2021; the KRW 120bn covers both the control acquisition and a capital increase.
