Target
Tmon is a Korean e-commerce platform that began as a social-commerce site in 2010 and was reported to have years of operating losses and capital impairment.
Deal rationale
Bizwatch reported Qoo10 acquired 81.74% of Tmon in a share swap for shares in its logistics subsidiary Qxpress, right after CEO Ku Young-bae's eBay non-compete expired. Per Newstomato, Anchor PE and KKR (Monster Holdings) had invested about KRW 50bn each in 2019 and 2021, and with Tmon loss-making the swap was the realistic exit, with a planned Qxpress Nasdaq IPO in view. The Economist (Korea) reported synergies with Qoo10's global logistics network.
