Target

Taewoong Medical is a Korean medical device company focused on developing and manufacturing metal stents for gastroenterology (biliary, esophageal, colonic and duodenal). It became a subsidiary within Olympus's Therapeutic Solutions division in January 2024.

Deal rationale

Olympus said the acquisition would strengthen its endoscopic therapeutic solutions portfolio and, per KED Global, enable introduction of a wide range of GI-related products. At closing, Therapeutic Solutions head Gabriela Kaynor called it an important milestone in Olympus's commitment to clinically differentiated solutions for GI patients and said it would expand the GI product lineup globally. Consideration totaled USD 370 million: about USD 255.5 million at completion and USD 114.5 million later.
