Target

Founded in 1998, a maker of wireless communication devices and smart helmets for motorcycling, cycling and skiing, exporting to 97 countries via US, German and French units. Reports cite about 60% global share and 2020 revenue of about KRW 111.1bn (94% overseas).

Deal rationale

Per Dailian, Kakao Games bought the stake to expand into sports alongside its golf unit Kakao VX and apply gamification to everyday life. Co-CEO Namkoong Whon said in July 2021 that the Sena acquisition was symbolically significant as a lateral expansion into sports. The payment date was postponed three times to 12 Nov 2021 pending FTC merger review, which a company official called a routine procedure.
