Target
Sangsangin Savings Bank is a mid-sized savings bank with total assets of KRW 2.0262 trillion at end-June 2025, ranking around 20th among 79 Korean savings banks. As of June 2026 its NPL ratio was 18.51% and delinquency rate 14.23%, above industry averages of 8.16% and 6.26%, and it received a management improvement recommendation from regulators.
Deal rationale
Per Financial News, the sale stems from a 2019 regulatory sanction on Sangsangin Group chief Yoo Jun-won that compromised major-shareholder eligibility, after which the FSC in 2023 ordered the group to sell over 90% of its two savings banks. KBI Group, which bought Raon Savings Bank in July 2025, said it was 'formalizing its return to finance and seeking synergies among affiliates.' After the 31 October 2025 SPA (deposit KRW 11.07 billion, balance KRW 99.63 billion), closing was postponed repeatedly pending regulatory approval; KBI withdrew its application and said it expects a positive outcome in H1 2027.
