Dosi Hwangyeong (Yeoncheon; two medical-waste incinerators, 44 t/day, plus steam from waste heat) and E-Medione (Jangheung; two medical-waste incinerators, 59 t/day) are medical-waste incinerators, while Green Environment Technology (Cheonan; one incinerator, 90 t/day) incinerates industrial waste and generates power from waste heat.
Deal rationale
SK Ecoplant said the deal continued its bolt-on strategy anchored by Environmental Facility Management (formerly EMC Holdings), following its June 2021 purchase of four incinerator operators (Klenco, Daewon Green Energy, Saehan Environment, DDS), and that it would hold 968 t/day of industrial-waste incineration capacity (No. 1 in Korea) and 139 t/day of medical-waste capacity (No. 2). CEO Ahn Jae-hyun said the company now holds a high market share in medical-waste incineration following industrial waste, noting strict regulation creates high entry barriers and aging will lift demand (Toyo Economy). According to NewDaily, the company said it was cultivating waste treatment as a new growth engine to complement housing-dependent construction earnings and would shift to an environment-centered portfolio.
