Target
The target is a company spun off from NeoArtisan operating Brooklyn The Burger Joint, a premium burger brand started in Seorae Village in 2010 with about 10 directly run stores, and Hyodo Chicken, an early-stage chicken brand.
Deal rationale
A Unison Capital official said the firm was impressed by quality control including ingredient sourcing, had built strong trust with the founding team, saw the premium burger market growing fast, and planned to set the business direction for early-stage Hyodo Chicken this year (Dealsite). The investment comes from Unison Capital Fund II, a KRW 500bn blind fund formed in November 2018 (about 30% deployed), with KRW 5bn more to be injected after closing for expansion. The founding team was expected to reinvest and hold within 10%.
